Metal market reaches new heights with COVID vaccine on the horizon

As we’re getting closer and closer to an effective COVID-19 vaccine, and celebrating the fact that here in the UK we now have one approved for use, some key parts of the global marketplace are starting to recover from the economic effects of the pandemic.

After scrap metal prices dropped in the early months of the year, and began to recover over the summer, they’re now looking even more promising due to the likelihood of a coronavirus vaccine becoming available in the very near future. This is great news for scrap yards and anyone with scrap metal they’re looking to sell, especially after such a tumultuous year.

The prospect of widespread vaccinations helping us all return to normal allows the global economy to begin to recover. Some industries have benefited from these developments more than others. For example, the metal market has begun to skyrocket with the value of copper hitting a seven-year high – even surpassing its pre-pandemic value – with aluminium and nickel also rising. Copper, being widely used in power and construction industries, has improved 77% since March alone.

This is great news for anyone with any scrap metal they’ve not yet cashed in on. As we know, scrap metal prices will always be subject to change so it’s a great time to strike while the iron is hot if you want to get the best price for your scrap. If you were holding out while the prices dipped – now is the time to reap your rewards!

Scrap metal, in general, is becoming an increasingly more popular choice as people become more aware of the environmental benefits of using recycled metals – and that’s great news for us scrap dealers, people looking to sell their scrap, and the environment… a win all round!

Since the first lockdown in spring 2020, we’ve continued to offer a COVID-secure, socially-distanced system at our scrap yard here at Singleton’s in Manchester so you know you can bring us your scrap in a way that’s totally safe and gives you that much-needed peace of mind until a vaccine is rolled out to the masses.

We’re open six days a week and we’ll happily sort and evaluate your scrap for free with our easy drive-in service. Please don’t hesitate to drop us a line if you’ve got any questions; if you’ve got some scrap for us – we look forward to seeing you!
