Everyone knows that one of the best ways to support sustainability and help the environment is to recycle, but did you know you can even recycle your car?
Global Recycling Day last month has jump-started the scrap metal and recycling industries’ drive towards net zero. The British Metals Recycling Association released a statement in support of the campaign which aims to get more people to take their cars to registered scrap recyclers like Singleton’s, they said: “It is essential that, as an industry, we continue to strive to implement the most efficient ways to recycle cars.”
The CEO of the BMRA, James Kelly, is also on board, he said: “As the voice of the UK metals recycling industry, and with many ATFs and vehicle recyclers in membership, BMRA is delighted to support car recycling and its goal to improve regulations and increase awareness of responsible car recycling. Recycling cars helps to conserve precious natural resources and will be key in the drive to net-zero, not just in the UK, but across the globe.”
Don’t worry, recycling your car isn’t the same as recycling at home, you won’t need to take the tyres off and put them in your green or brown bin. At Singleton’s, we do the hard work for you, like draining the fluids, and removing the tyres and the battery before it’s crushed and all the metal recycled. It’s not just the outer body that can be recycled either, if your car still has the battery and catalytic converters inside, these contain precious metals like platinum, palladium, rhodium and cobalt. We even do all the paper work for you, all you need to do is bring your car and registered log book to Singleton’s Scrap Metal in Manchester and we’ll price it up for you there and then.
It is important to check that your car is being scrapped by an authorised treatment facility (AFT) like Singleton’s to ensure that all equipment and processes comply with the 2003 regulations. The regulations introduced The End of Life Vehicles (ELV) Regulation 2003, to reduce the amount of waste from scrap cars and vans and introduce certificates of destruction.
If you’re looking to scrap your car sustainably, Singleton’s offers both a good price for your vehicle and peace of mind that all the legwork has been done for you. If you have any questions about how much your car is worth, contact us today or call 0161 220 8058.
